Materials: |
heavy paper, black construction paper cut in ¾” squares, glue, book rings, manipulatives (bears, beans, buttons, pennies, etc.) |
Directions: |
Glue a specific number of squares on each page as shown. Write the numeral at the top and the word at the bottom. Children take manipulatives and match them up one-to-one with the squares on each page. |

Vary this activity by using seasonal objects, such as pumpkin
seeds, holiday erasers, and other small toys.

Materials: |
paper with “I spy ________.” at the top, crayons, markers, hole punch, book rings |
Directions: |
Each child takes a sheet of paper and draws a set of objects. Have them complete the sentence by dictating or writing the amount. Next, challenge them to “camouflage” the objects by filling the page with other objects. |

Materials: |
sentence strips, markers, hole punch, book ring, counting bears and other manipulatives |
Directions: |
Make patterns on the sentence strips with the markers similar to those below. Hole punch the sentence strips and put together with the book ring. Children take the bears and lay them on the pattern. Then they extend the pattern with the bears. |

Let children play this game with a friend. The first child makes a pattern and the second child tries to extend it. Then the second child creates a pattern for the first child to extend.
