Recycle Round Up! Have the children save cardboard food boxes for a week and bring them to school. Here are some great projects for recycling the boxes in your classroom. Fronts and Backs - Cut the fronts and backs off boxes. Mix them up and challenge the children to match the fronts and backs that go together. Start with 4 pairs and increase the number. Concentration - Place the fronts and backs of the boxes face down on the floor. Turn over two at a time and play as a memory game. Again, start with 4 pairs and increase the number to challenge the children. Hint! Cut the boxes to a uniform size to make game pieces. Label Puzzles - Cut the top section with the label off the boxes. Children try to match up the labels with the correct food box. Puzzle Puzzles - Cut boxes into puzzle shapes. Store in a zip bag. Sewing Cards - Punch holes around the sides of boxes. Have children sew through the holes with yarn or old shoe strings. Stencils - Cut geometric shapes or seasonal objects out of boxes. Children can trace around these with colored pencils or crayons. Litter Boxes - Cut the tops off boxes and hole punch each side. Tie on a piece of string. Tell children to put these in their cars and use for collecting trash. |
