Student made books for your classroom

Napkin Book - Purchase holiday or novelty napkins at a dollar store. Cut paper the size of the napkin and staple inside to make a book.

Accordion Book - Take a sentence strip and fold it in half, fourths, eights. Now fold back and forth like a fan. Use the book for writing numerals, skip counting, ABC’s, a time line, or for drawing the sequence of a story. Hint! You can also cut long strips of paper to make an accordion book.

Place Mat Book - Purchase a child’s plastic placemat and use as a pattern to cut blank paper for your book. Each child can illustrate a page and write (or dictate) a story for the book. Hole punch and bind with book rings.

Paper Plate Book - Cut circles out of paper the size of your paper plate. Children draw pictures on the circles. Hole punch at the top and bind with ribbon to make a book.

File Folder Peek-a-boo - Cut slits out of the front of file folders as shown. Glue children’s photos, magazine pictures, etc. on the inside of the folders. Hole punch and bind with book rings. Children open the slits one at a time and try to identify the picture.

Shape Books - Cut construction paper into different shapes to make books that relate to a theme, holiday, or season. Hearts, kites, eggs, leaves, fish, cars, bugs, trees, and flowers are some examples.
