As I was looking through my “new idea” file from the past year I selected twenty ideas I thought might be the most helpful to you the first few weeks of school. Thanks, thanks, thanks to all of you who shared these activities with me! And, if YOU have an idea to add, please email it to me. Just like in the song, “The more we get together the happier we’ll be… the more we learn and share together, the happier we’ll teach!”
1. Table Tubs - Fill a small baskets table with things such as puzzles, dry erase activities (that go with the month or unit), books, magazines, magic slates, folder games, etc. Place a tub on each table. If children finish their work early they can choose something from the tub. Rotate tubs each week and then change monthly.
2. Line Up Song (Tune: Hi Ho, Hi Ho) Hi ho, hi ho, it’s off to (lunch, play, home, etc.) we go. With our heads held high and arms by our sides And our belly buttons all in a row.
3. Special Friend (Tune: Letter Tails/Gilligan’s Island) Insert each child’s name and letter as you sing: This is a tale about a special friend Whose name starts with A /a/ /a / /a/ /a/ A Annabelle is her name
4. Criss cross - be your own boss! (Sit and cross arms.)
5. Student heroes 5-4-3-2-1-zero (Hold up hand and put down one finger at a time.) I’m looking for my (Make circles with index fingers and thumbs and place student heroes. around eyes like glasses.)
