Fun and Games -

INCREDIBLE PLASTIC EGGS -

Use plastic eggs throughout the year for learning games.

  • Children can match upper and lowercase letters, numerals and number words, math facts and answers, antonyms, etc.
  • Write onsets on one half and a rime on the other. Children twist the eggs and read the new words.
  • Write words on the outside. Put word puzzles for children to put together on the inside

RUB A DUB DUB - FUN WITH A TUB

Fill a tub with water. Give each child a piece of tin foil and let her create a boat. Encourage her to estimate how many counting bears can float on the boat. Children put one bear at a time on their boats until they sink. Record results and compare.

BREAK DANCE -

Have children sit on the floor in a circle when you do your COOL alphabet songs like “Who Let the Letters Out?” and “Happy Birthday Letters.” As the letter that each child’s name starts with comes up in the song, that child may get in the middle of the circle and do a break dance. (Vary this experience by having them dance on the first letter in their last name, the last letter in their first name, etc.)

DINOSAUR STOMP -

Amanda Langley Cabral of Les Enfants at Trinity in New Orleans wrote this poem:

Here they come from afar,
Those enormous dinosaurs.
Earthquake, earth shake,
Hear that horrible sound they make.
Raaahhh!! Raaahhh!!

The children assume the position of their favorite dinosaur.
The children circle around stomping like a dinosaur.
The song ends with the children standing still and roaring with a loud Raaahhhh!!! sound.
