Parts of a Book -

Teach children about the parts of a book with this song to the tune of "The Farmer in the Dell."

   The author writes the book.
   The author writes the book.
   Hi, ho, librario.
   The author writes the book.

   The illustrator draws the pictures…
The publisher puts it together… etc.

Angela Barnes at Central School in O'Fallon, IL, made up this song to the tune of: "My Darlin' Clementine."

There are three parts, there are three parts,
There are three parts to a book.

There are three parts, there are three parts,
There are three parts to a book.

There's the title. There's the author.
   There's the illustrator.

Now we'll tell you, what they all do,
   What the three parts do.

The title tells you what the story is,
   What you're reading about.

The title starts with a capital,
And is usually at the top.

   The author is a person,
   Who writes the words.

The author thinks of a story,
   And writes it all down.

   The illustrator is a person,
   Who draws the pictures.

   The illustrator makes up pictures
   That go with the words.
Now we know them, now we know them,
The three parts of a book.

There's the title. There's the author.
   And an illustrator, too.
