LITTLE RED BOX

LITTLE RED BOX
(Tune: "Polly Wolly Doodle")
I wish I had a little red box
To put my child's name in.
I'd take him/her out and go kiss, kiss, kiss, (smack in the air)
And put them back again.
...Continue singing each child's name.

Hint! Cover a small box with red paper. Write children's names on sentence strips and glue their picture by their name. Pull one name at a time out of the red box and sing to them.

I LIKE TO COME TO SCHOOL
(Tune: "The Farmer in the Dell")
I like to come to school.
I like to come to school.
I like to learn and play each day,
I like to come to school.
I like to play with blocks.                    (Ask children what they
I like to play with blocks.                     like to do then insert
I like to learn and play each day,         it in the song.)
I like to play with blocks.

Make a language experience chart of what children say.
"We can say it, we can write it, and we can sing it!"

3 "H" HELLO
Go up to each child and ask them which
"H" they would like: a High five, Hug, or Handshake.
Greet them with the one they request. They can also ask
for a "triple play." That's all three!
Here's a chant to go along with the 3 "H":

Hey, hey, what do you say?
High five, hug, or handshake today?
Let's begin in a special way ~
High five, hug, handshake, or triple play?

HELLO! HOW ARE YOU?
(Tune: "Good Night Ladies")
Hello, child's name.
Hello, child's name.
Hello, child's name.
We're glad you're here today.

Hint!
Make a "Singing Friends Book" to go along with this song. Take a picture of each child (or let them draw their picture). Fill their name in on the above verse and attach it to the page with their picture. Put their pictures together to make a book and run off a copy for each child. Start each day by "reading and singing" along.

I'M LOOKING THROUGH MY MIRROR
(Tune: "Go In and Out the Window")
I'm looking through my mirror.
I'm looking through my mirror.
I'm looking through my mirror,
And I see my friend child's name.

Make a prop for this song by cutting a mirror shape out of cardboard. Wrap in aluminum foil or spray paint gold. Look through the mirror as you sing, then pass to the first child. The first child looks through the mirror and names a friend. Children continue passing the mirror until everyone has had a turn.

Hint! You can also use an empty picture frame and sing, "I'm looking
through my window..."

SURPRISE SACK
(Tune: "I'm a Little Teapot")
Capture children's attention for a book, game, or concept you want to introduce by putting a prop in a sack (or box) and singing:

What's in the surprise sack, who can tell?        (Have children guess what
Maybe it's a book, or maybe it's a shell.           they think is in the bag.
What's in the surprise sack, who can see?        then remove it and share
It's something special for you and me!             it with them.)
