SHE’LL BE COMING ROUND THE MOUNTAIN
She’ll be comin’ round the mountain (Clap hands.)
When she comes. Yeehaw! (Fist in air.)
She’ll be comin’ round the mountain
When she comes. Yeehaw!
She’ll be comin’ round the mountain,
She’ll be comin’ round the mountain,
She’ll be comin’ round the mountain
When she comes. Yeehaw!
Driving 6 white horses – Whoa back! (Pretend to pull back on reins.)
We’ll all go out to greet her – Hi ya’ll! (Wave hand.)
She’ll be wearing her red pajamas – Scratch, scratch! (Scratch self.)
She will have to sleep with grandma – Zzzz! Zzzz! (Close eyes and snore.)
We will have chicken and dumplings – Yum! Yum! (Pat tummy.)
Activities: Let children turn their chairs around and straddle them as if riding a horse as you sing.
Have children close their eyes and make pictures in their brain as you sing the song. Let them each illustrate their favorite part of the song. Add words to their pictures and put them together to make a class songbook. Make a page for “illustrators” where all the children sign their name. Add the copyright date (current day), publisher (school and city and state), and let the children dedicate the book to a special school helper.
“Why was she driving six white horses?” How do people travel today. Change the words of the song and sing what the children suggest. For example, she could ride a skateboard, truck, sports car, etc.

Make “letter pops” by gluing magnetic letters to jumbo craft sticks. Pass these out to children to hold up as you sing various alphabet songs. Can they match their letters up to classroom print? Can their find their letter in a book? Can they put their letters together to make words?
Download this alphabet chart and run off a copy for each child. Glue to the inside of a file folder. Ask the children to point to the letters as you sing different alphabet songs. Use Downloads link at top left.
Make “eye spy” pointers. Glue googly eyes to craft sticks. Challenge children to keep their “eye” on the letters as you sing.
Make letter play dough plates. You will need clear, plastic dessert plates. Trace a different letter on each plate with a permanent marker. Children roll play dough and then place it on top of the lines to make the letter.
FIVE LITTLE HOTDOGS
Five Little Hotdogs
