What is a Family?

This is a great time to talk about all the different kinds of families there are. How are families alike? How are they different?

Swimming (Tune: “Sailing, Sailing”)

Swimming, swimming, in the swimming pool. (Pretend to swim.)
When days are hot or days are cold, in the swimming pool. (Fan self and then shiver.)
Back stroke, side stroke, fancy diving, too. (Swim backwards, sideways, and then dive.)
There’s no place I would rather be (Shake head “no.”)
Than in the swimming pool. (Make a square in the air.)
Softer…Hum it.

Water Play - Have a water play day where children bring bathing suits, towels, and pool toys. Set up plastic swimming pools and a sprinkler. Blow bubbles or have squirt bottles of water. Watermelon, popsicles, or ice cream cones would be a great snack.

Pool Safety - Brainstorm pool safety. Have children make a T-Chart of “do’s” and “don’ts” when they swim.

Life Preserver Sandwich - You will need bagels (cut in half), cream cheese, blue food coloring, and fish crackers. Dye the cream cheese blue with a few drops of blue food coloring. Spread cream cheese on the bagel. Arrange several fish crackers on the cream cheese. Swim it into your mouth!

Paper Plate Fish - You will need paper plates, brad fasteners, markers, and crayons for this project. Cut a triangle out of the paper plate to be the mouth of the fish. Attach the triangle to the back with the brad fastener to make the tail. Color with crayons or markers.
