Five Minute Games and Ideas

This month you will find activities to use when you have an extra five minutes in your school day. According to research, we waste 20-30% of instructional time each day, so these ideas can help you take advantage of those little “teachable moments.”

There are ideas for reading, math, writing, and indoor games. And remember, just because it’s a “game” doesn’t mean children aren’t learning.

Valuable verbal skills and lessons in how to cooperate, how to lose, how to communicate, and how to take turns are developed through classroom games.

Download the ones you like, print them on cardstock and put them in your pocket (literally or figuratively). If the children enjoy them, then tape them to the front of your desk and let the children choose games when you have extra time.
