A teacher once remarked that the first few days of school are like watching the first five minutes of a TV show or reading the first few pages in a book. You know right away if you’re going to like it or not, and you can switch channels or put the book down. Children don’t have that much choice about attending school, but we can put out our best effort to make the first days of school exciting and to make them feel welcome.
